"Fantastic Voyage" (Directed by Richard Fleischer, 20th Century Fox, 1966) was made for $6.5 million. Richard also directed "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" for Walt Disney.

The sub in "Fantastic Voyage" was designed by Harper Goeff. Harper is also known for the design of Disney's Nautilus ("20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", though not given full credit) and the sets for "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory". The full size version was 42' x 23', cost $100,000, and weighed over 4 tons. It was built in sections, so it could be dismantled for easier filming inside (the interior seen in the film was actually inside the full sized mockup). According to Phil Broad, the full sized sub was last know to have been canibalized (sadly disfigured) as a "rescue sub" for the "Poseidon Adventure" (though never used), and probably ended being cut up for scrap.
