The miniature work was handled by L. B. Abbott (winning Emmys for his work on "Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea", "The Time Tunnel", "Lost in Space", and "City Beneath The Sea"; Oscar nominated for "Journey to The Centre of The Earth"; Oscar award for "Doctor Dolittle" and "Tora! Tora! Tora!"), Art Cruickshank, and Emil Kosa Jr.

A number of miniatures were made, one is about 5', another was 1.5" (but was lost during a break in filming when a crow picked up the model from a window sill and flew off with it). The 5' prop belongs to Greg Jein (Hollywood model maker for "Flesh Gordon", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Hunt for Red October", "1941", various incarnations of "Star Trek", and many others), Greg restored it, as part of his collection.

See the photo survey of restored 5' and 1½' prop. These photos were taken during preparation for the 2007 über DVD release. The smaller one was aucioned off in April '07, I don't know where it is now.
