| The
time between being awake and sleep ("hypnagogic",
experienced on falling asleep & "hypnopompic",
experienced on waking up) is an unusual time. Since 1981,
I have been capturing images (both static and kinetic)
which manifest during these states of consciousness. They
have been an excellent source for inspiration. Originally
documenting these images for myself, a familiarity was
expressed upon showing them to others. Entoptic (literally "vision from within") images may
be related to Paleoart.
An almost Jungian type of experience. They range from playful to dramatic,
from organic to geometric.
There
are no words that adequately describe the images experienced in the
intersection of sleeping, waking. Any words I choose acquire the discomfort
of the "politics of words" (discounting the images because
of some connection to a particular belief system). Therefore, each viewer
must decide for themselves what significance they hold.
There are many images sketched in my notebooks. Over
the years, these sketches have been made into drawings,
paintings, sculptures, and virtual models. I began making
3D computer models of my visions In November '96. I've
wanted to build them on the computer since I began recording
them, cyberspace always seemed to be an appropriate
medium. Some images required more post-production than
others. These images are listed by the date they were
observed.
